Message from Hannelore

Dear IMSA Members,

This past Holiday season has been very rewarding to me personally and to The International Medical Spa Association. We received so many best wishes from members that it is impossible for me to list them all, let alone reply to them personally. So please accept this as a heartfelt THANK YOU for your love and the support you extended to me and my staff. It is very much appreciated and we all had a jolly good time enjoying the many goodies we received during the season.

2006 is starting with many new and promising projects with upcoming trade shows we are participating in.

I hope to see many of you in Los Angeles at the end of next month or maybe in Jamaica before that!

Spafully,

Hannelore R. Leavy
Executive Director

Antioxidant Update

By Dr. Lyn Ross CEO Institut' DERMed

The skin works to prevent toxins from penetrating deep into the body. It fights elements by electro-statically filtering chemicals out of the air and concentrating these polluted cells in the epidermal barrier cells before shedding them. Unfortunately, the skin cannot shed itself nearly fast enough to keep these elements from doing damage to the underlying physiological processes. This is one reason why skin cancer has become the most common form of cancer.

Business Issues Facing Medical Spas

By Cheryl Whitman, CEO Beautiful Forever Medical Spa Business Consulting

While it may seem as if the medical spa business is burgeoning beyond the seams, there can be some real pitfalls and challenges, particularly for those with little or no prior management experience in the industry.

As a large number of family practice physicians and OB/GYNs are virtually abandoning their traditional practices to go the medical spa route while entrepreneurs from other fields are jumping into the fray as well, merely making this transition or entry into the medical spa business is not a green card to success and profitability.

As the spa industry continues to grow at an astounding rate, spa owners are finding it increasingly difficult to differentiate themselves from their current competitors and the myriad of spas that seem to be opening up around every corner.
